2010 Year End Lists: Adam Jackson, Retail Promotions

2010 Year End Lists: Adam Jackson, Retail Promotions These are, in no particular order, some of the non-Merge records that come to mind when I think of my favorites of 2010: Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody - I Could Sleep for a Thousand Years (Second Motion): This was the only record I listened to in my car for an entire month this summer. Edwyn Collins - Losing Sleep (Heavenly) Also check out: Falling & Laughing: The Restoration of Edwyn Collins by Grace Maxwell, Edwyn's wife's book about his near death experience & amazing recovery.

These are, in no particular order, some of the non-Merge records that come to mind when I think of my favorites of 2010:

Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody - I Could Sleep for a Thousand Years (Second Motion): This was the only record I listened to in my car for an entire month this summer.

Edwyn Collins - Losing Sleep (Heavenly) Also check out: Falling & Laughing: The Restoration of Edwyn Collins by Grace Maxwell, Edwyn's wife's book about his near death experience & amazing recovery. And the incredible new Orange Juice box set, Coals To Newcastle (Domino).

Cinema Red and Blue - Cinema Red and Blue (What's Your Rupture?):  ≈ Comet Gain & friends.

Tamaryn - Waves (Mexican Summer): Which reminds me, there is a deluxe reissue of Ride's Nowhere out this month.

The National - High Violet (4AD): They make good records. I like to sing along.

PJ Harvey - "Written On The Forehead": the first single from her next record. Everyone who sits near me at Merge HQ has heard it about a billion times. http://soundcloud.com/pjharvey/written-on-the-forehead/s-FnKW5

William Tyler - Behold the Spirit (Tompkins Square): beautiful guitars from Nashville gentleman.

Lloyd Cole - Broken Record (lloydcole.com): If you haven't been keeping up, you've missed several excellent records from Mr. Cole in his solo/indie years.

Phosphorescent - Here's To Taking It Easy (Dead Oceans): I seem to be buying a lot of records from Dead Oceans recently.

Steve Wynn - Northern Aggression (Yep Roc): His fourth great record in a row with the Miracle 3. See them live.
