Celebrate 25 years of independent music—kilometer by kilometer—with Merge Records!
To kick off a year of festivities and special releases surrounding the 25th anniversary, Merge and Bull City Running Co. will host a 25K road race on Saturday, March 22, 2014.
The first point-to-point race of its kind, participants will convene at the starting line in Chapel Hill, where Merge had its beginnings, and race to the finish in our current home of downtown Durham. Our hope is to generate significant donations for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and Habitat for Humanity of Durham and Orange County while marking the momentous occasion of 25 years of releasing great music from our beloved home of North Carolina.
We're doing weekly raffle prizes for all race registrants, too! This week, we're giving away a gift certificate to Cat's Cradle and a Patagonia gear bag! All registrants are automatically entered to win, so sign up before Monday, March 17 to win!

5:45-7:15am - Packet Pickup at East Chapel Hill High School baseball field area
5:30am - Shuttles begin leaving from 300 W Morgan St., Durham (parking deck across from the Carolina Theatre) to race start line
6:15 am - Latest arrival to guarantee a spot on the shuttle from 300 W Morgan St., Durham to race start line
7:30am - 25K Race begins!

The party will be held at Motorco Music Hall and feature performances from The Love Language & Vertical Scratchers and Girls Rock NC graduates Cosmic Punk in addition to DJing by Superchunk's Mac McCaughan, and a performance by Durham's own Bouncing Bulldogs. The Durham Bulls' Mascot Wool E. Bull will also celebrate with us from 10-11am!
We'll have a pop-up store with Merge music & gear, including custom Merge 25K magnets for sale! The party is free & open to the public, so invite your family & friends to join in the celebration!
Bruegger's Bagels and Whole Foods will provide post-run snacks, and White Street Brewing Co. will provide free beer samples to runners.
There will also be food available from Motorco's Parts & Labor, Pie Pushers, Kokyu BBQ, Parlour and The Pit. All runners will receive 25% off non-alcoholic beverages at Cocoa Cinnamon on race day!
Registration and Packet Pickup
Online registration is now closed. We are accepting walk-ups
We will accept walk-up registration for $85 at packet pick-up on Friday, March 21 at Bull City Running Co. and at the start line until 7 am.
Runners can pick up their tech t-shirt and race bib on Friday, March 21 from 3:30-6:30pm at Bull City Running Co. (202 W. NC Hwy 54, Suite 201, Durham), or on Saturday, March 22 from 5:45-7:15am at the race start line at East Chapel Hill High School (500 Weaver Dairy Rd., Chapel Hill).
Chip Timing and Results:
Chip timing and results management is provided by Bull City Running.
Your timing chip is located on the back of your bib number. Do not bend or alter your bib in anyway. Bibs need to be pinned to the front of your shirt and visible at all times. Preliminary results will be made available at the finish area, and official results will be posted to the race website as soon as possible after the race.
Due to the chilly temperatures expected at the beginning of the race, we are offering a bag drop at the start line. Be aware that we will acceptrace-provided bags only (no backpacks or duffels). Also, we will accept no valuables - money, phone, keys, etc - this is meant for clothing and race-related sundries only. We can accept no liability for lost items. Bags must be picked up at the finish line. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity.
The course map can be found in MapMyRun here or as a pdf here. The race begins at East Chapel Hill High School at 7:30am and will finish on Rigsbee Ave in Durham in front of Motorco Music Hall.

There will be FIVE DJs along the course to keep you moving! We're thrilled to have DJs from WXYC 89.3, WKNC 88.1, WXDU 88.7 as well as Montgomery Morris of Flesh Wounds on board! Shout out a request as you pass them by!
We will also have a great mix of Merge music & more at the starting line provided by Merge employees. This will not your typical race soundtrack!
There will be no pace runners, although we will have signs to help runners line up by their goal pace for this course.

Headphones are ok, but please be aware of your surroundings and be able to hear instructions from course marshals & law enforcement along the route.
We're sorry, no strollers are allowed on this race.
Prior to the start of the race, shuttle service will be provided from the finish line in Durham to the starting line in Chapel Hill. Please note that shuttles will not bring participants back to Chapel Hill after the race. Parking is available at the starting line at East Chapel Hill High School too, but we are not providing transportation back there after the race. Carpooling is greatly encouraged.
There will be fresh coffee (Courtesy of our sponsor Counter Culture) and great music at the race start to keep you warm & energized pre-race.
Buses will leave from the parking deck located at 300 W Morgan St. Durham. There is a $3 fee per car parked here, so please bring cash. You can also park in the Chapel Hill Street Garage at 326 East Chapel Hill St for free, but you must walk to the bus shuttle pick-up at 300 W. Morgan St.
Other Race Details
Minimum Pace Requirements:
Participants must maintain a minimum pace of 15:00/mile to take part in this event. This rule is in place to enable police to reopen the major roads used for the race course. Race officials will be following the back of the pack to enforce this rule. In the event that you are unable to maintain the minimum pace, you will be asked to complete the remainder of the course unassisted by police. Thank you for your understanding.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top masters male and female.
