Conor Oberst

Conor Oberst
Conor Oberst has been writing, recording and performing his songs since he was thirteen years old, primarily with his band Bright Eyes, as well as with Desaparecidos, Commander Venus and Park Ave. Since the release of his first cassette, Water, in 1993, Oberst has been hailed as the heir to an American Songwriting tradition, and compared to the likes of Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen. Bright Eyes released 8 critically acclaimed albums on Saddle Creek.

In 2008 Oberst signed to Merge Records and is returning to his early recording roots with an eponymously self-titled album. Recorded in Tepoztlán, Morelos, México during the months of January and February 2008 with The Mystic Valley Band (Nate Walcott: Electric Piano, Organ; Jason Boesel: Drums, Voice; Macey Taylor: Bass; Nik Freitas: Electric Guitar; Taylor Hollingsworth: Electric Guitar).

Produced by Conor Oberst with the help of engineer and longtime associate Andy LeMaster, the album was recorded in Tepoztlán, Morales, Mexico. Creating a temporary studio in a mountain villa for a one-month period this winter, Conor and a tight-knit group of fellow musicians, who aptly call themselves The Mystic Valley Band, crafted a lush and beautiful record that evokes the deep sense of harmony in which they lived and worked during that month.

You can also stream two songs, "Danny Callahan" and "Souled Out!!!", from Conor's new website.
