The Music Tapes announce the first shows of “The Traveling Imaginary”

In support of their new album, Mary’s Voice, The Music Tapes (Julian Koster, Robbie Cucchiaro, 7-Foot-Tall Metronome, a legion of singing saws, and friends) are embarking on a unique US tour. The band will be visiting towns and cities across the country as The Traveling Imaginary. They will pitch the circus tent home built especially for this tour and host an evening of songs, stories, games, movies, magic, amusements, and more.

The tent, which was funded by The Music Tapes’ wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, has been a longtime dream of Julian’s. On entering the completed structure for the very first time, he said, “If you made a circus tent out of blankets in your room when you were a little kid and then fell asleep, it’s like the dream you would have.”

The Music Tapes have announced the inaugural dates of The Traveling Imaginary, and would like you to invite them to visit your town!

To bring the Traveling Imaginary to YOUR art gallery, community center, warehouse, university, museum, performing arts center, studio space, loft, library, church, or barn this coming February and March, write TravelingImaginary@gmail.com for details. The show requires a clear interior space at least 26’ x 38’, with ceilings 10-feet or higher. Also, if you would like to volunteer for the traveling tent pitching crew please write Imaginarytentcrew@gmail.com for details.

The Music Tapes have a long history of hosting surreal tours since first emerging as part of the influential Elephant 6 Collective – including the annual Caroling and Lullaby tours that have brought them into over 500 homes across the country. The Traveling Imaginary is an extension of those shows on a more ambitious scale than anything The Music Tapes has ever done.

ATP curated by Jeff Mangum postponed until March; Superchunk London show still on!

All Tomorrow’s Parties announced today that the ATP festival curated by Jeff Mangum originally scheduled for December 2-4 has been rescheduled for March 9-11, 2012 at the same location of Butlins Holiday Center, Minehead, UK.

It should be noted that the decision to postpone the ATP curated by Jeff Mangum festival as made earlier today was not Jeff Mangum’s decision and he is as disappointed as everyone else that the festival is not taking place on the original date.

Visit ATPfestival.com for more information on the line-up for the rescheduled festival in March as it unfolds.

In the meantime, there are still tickets to Superchunk’s London show with Let’s Wrestle at Scala on December 1!

Jeff Mangum curates ATP and announces fall solo shows! New pre-sale & on sale dates added!

All Tomorrow’s Parties recently announced that Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) will be performing and curating one of the two festival weekends of their December festivities at Butlins, Minehead. In addition to ATP, Jeff will also be playing select dates on the east coast this fall.

As well as headlining ATP, Mangum will choose around 40 acts to play across the weekend on three indoor stages with a total festival capacity of around 5500 people. Mangum will perform more than once in the more intimate Centre Stage venue, although entry to only one show is guaranteed – he will be performing a solo acoustic set.

After releasing what is now one of the most loved and critically acclaimed albums of the 1990s (In The Aeroplane Over The Sea), Neutral Milk Hotel disbanded before many of those who now love their albums had a chance to see the songs performed live, so Jeff’s much anticipated return to the live stage this year will no doubt be a very special occasion for fans throughout the UK and worldwide.

Here’s a first look at the line-up as chosen by Jeff Mangum which already features a number of much loved performers/groups:

JEFF MANGUM (Neutral Milk Hotel)
SUPERCHUNK
THE OLIVIA TREMOR CONTROL
YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS
THE MAGIC BAND
