Here’s a quick summary of what you may have missed:

The limited-edition Destroyer 12-inch “Archer on the Beach” is out-of-print in the Merge store, but you can now buy the songs via digital download!

Don’t miss out on Swim Remixes—Caribou’s answer to what happens when you put one of the year’s hottest dance records in the hands of some of the world’s best DJs! With reworks of some of Swim’s hottest cuts by Junior Boys, Fuck Buttons, Nite Jewel, DJ Koze, Walls, Gold Panda, Gavin Russom, and more, Swim Remixes contains over an hour-and-a-half of new, fresh takes on Caribou’s latest opus.

Let’s Wrestle bring us a tasty piece of next year’s sophomore record with the “Getting Rest”/“When I Was In Hospital” digital single. Be warned: these young Londoners are not to be missed.

Shout Out Louds’ Fall Hard EP expands upon Work’s catchy first single with non-album cuts “Fall Hard Pt. 2” and “Can’t Explain.”

Lou Barlow + the missingmen’s = Sentridoh III is Lou’s first recorded output with new backing band the missingmen. Described by the band as “an almost live representation of the Lou Barlow + the missingmen live show,” this mini-album breathes new, rocking life into Sebadoh and Sentridoh classics, Lou’s solo material, and even a haunting cover of the timeless Skip James song “I’m So Glad.”

Tracey Thorn followed up this year’s gorgeous Love and Its Opposite with a pair of digital EPs, Why Does the Wind? and Opposites, that offer up wildly creative remixes of some of the album’s most-loved songs. Why Does the Wind? pairs the album track of the same name with remixes by Morgan Geist, Michel Clies, and André Lodemann, along with a radio edit and dub version. As for the Opposites EP, Tracey herself probably says it best: “If the remixes for the last single ‘Why Does the Wind?’ were aimed at the dancefloor, these are perhaps aimed more at the head.” Visionquest (“Swimming”), Walls (“Kentish Town”), and Blue Daisy (“Late in the Afternoon”) provide penetrating new takes presented alongside the originals.

Let’s also revisit Lambchop’s magnetic Live at XX Merge performance; Portastatic’s Make It Sound In Tune EP; digital reissues of Richard Buckner’s landmark albums Impasse, The Hill, and Bloomed; and The Ladybug Transistor’s fantastic Here Comes the Rain covers EP.

Our Holiday Coupon applies to digital releases, too, so download away!

After two sold out shows in NYC last week, Shout Out Louds are now looking forward to their North American tour during the month of May with Brooklyn buzz band Freelance Whales. With the band’s new album, Work, in stores and online now, the tour begins on May 2 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and will culminate with a performance at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles, CA, on May 21.

In addition to the upcoming tour, the band just issued a mini-documentary on the making of Work titled “Shout Out Louds … at Work.” Directed by the band’s bassist and renowned video director Ted Malmros, “Shout Out Louds … at Work” provides a deep glimpse into the process that went into the creation of the songs that make up the new studio album. Esquire Magazine recently commended the band and their track “Walls,” naming it March’s “Perfect Pop Song of the Month” and describing it as a “truly memorable moment — too rarely does a modern pop song leave you humming an old-fashioned man-made piano hook.”

Through the alluring moving images and stills taken from interviews with the band and Phil Ek, their producer, to the Washington woodlands where Work was recorded, the mini-documentary presents itself as a diary that captures all of the emotions evoked from the pressure, as well as the excitement, of creating such a highly anticipated release.

Watch “Shout Out Louds … at Work” and order Work on CD, LP and digital download in the Merge store.

Pre-Order Work on CD and limited edition LP now in the Merge store!

Click to download an MP3 of “Walls” and watch the video below!

After a year of touring behind their acclaimed second record, Our Ill Wills, the band went their separate ways — singer/main songwriter Adam Olenius to Melbourne, Australia, keyboard/vocalist Bebban Stenborg to Los Angeles, drummer Eric Edman, bassist Ted Malmros and guitarist Carl von Arbin back to Stockholm – and took a much needed break. Olenius wrote many of the new songs in Australia in a tiny room, with a little synthesizer, an acoustic guitar and garageband on his laptop. He passed them on to the others who listened closely from their corners of the world, questioning and challenging him until the songs that make up Work had all passed the test.

“Walls” came first and then the rest. It’s interesting that Our Ill Wills was written at home but is all about travel while Work, written on the road with a non-Swede in the producer seat for the first time, is all about home. For the songs on Work, the band stripped their sound down, lost the percussionist and string section and kept things organic, unadorned and to the point.

Shout Out Louds will be playing a special album-release show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, on March 1st.

The album was recorded at Bear Creek Studio in Seattle and was produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, The Shins, Built To Spill, Modest Mouse).

Singer Adam Olenius explains their choice of the album title, Work:

I am fascinated by the process of creating something and almost working yourself to death, the relief that comes when it is over and the ability to just shut off a part of one’s life. Work also means that something “does work,” to reach a goal. A song from John Cale and Lou Reed’s “Songs For Drella” also inspired our album title choice.

Merge will release Work on February 23rd and will have tour dates to announce soon! Visit ShoutOutLouds.com for photos and a short video from the recording sessions.

To celebrate, Stereogum brings you Quit Your Day Job with Jenn Wasner!

Unless you were born with one of those silver spoons, you likely work a day job, sneaking time for your own business when not taking care of someone else’s. You’re not alone. Every week, Brandon Stosuy finds out how our favorite indie artists make ends meet…

STEREOGUM: How long have you been at Golden West Cafe? I noticed, via the website, that they relocated a few years ago. Were you there during that transition?

JENN WASNER: I’ve been working at Golden West for almost three years now. The restaurant used to be in a tiny storefront on the Avenue in Hampden; now it’s a much bigger place with about thirty tables, a stage, and a bar in the back. I started working there a couple of years after they made the move to the bigger place.

STEREOGUM: What shift do you work? Or does it switch?

JW: Tricky question, because part of the reason that I’m still working there is because of their unbeatable flexibility with my schedule. The general routine is that anyone who needs a shift covered puts up a sign and another employee usually snaps it up, no problem. A good part of the staff at GW are artists and musicians, precisely because you can get shifts covered for your show or tour, and come back in a couple of months still gainfully employed.

Shout Out Louds played the last show of their North American tour last night in front of a packed and raucous house at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. It was indeed the perfect ending to an amazing tour. But the night was made extra special when Spider Stacy and James Fearnley of The Pogues joined the band onstage for a rollicking version of “Streams Of Whiskey” during the encore.

There’s some video below, but be warned the sound leaves a lot to be desired. You still get a sense of the fun though.

NME has a story on the events of the evening HERE.

We wish our friends from Sweden safe passage home and look forward to their return to these shores in early 2008 (stay tuned for details on that).

Just a reminder kids, don’t forget to tune in or set your tivo/DVRs for Spoon‘s appearance this weekend on Saturday Night Live. Seth Rogan is the host, so it should be a great episode. There’s just got to be a Freaks And Geeks skit, right? Go ahead and make it a party – pop some popcorn, chill some Fresca and invite your friends over!

But Spoon is not the only Merge band rockin’ the airwaves in the next few days. Shake off your back-to-the-work-week-blues with Shout Out Louds on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, this coming Monday night (10/08/07).

And then Spoon returns to NBC in a couple of weeks with an appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Thursday, October 18th. The boys from Austin then score the late night sweep with their own appearance on the Late Late Show in early November (date to be confirmed).

Amazing stuff. Must See TV for sure.

Lindsey & I headed to San Francisco for a whirlwind 3 day trip! We managed to pack in visits to some of the best radio stations in the country in between amazing meals AND most importantly, we got to meet the guys and gal of Shout Out Louds!

The Shout Out Louds played the famous Popscene at Rickshaw Stop. The place was packed and full of sweat! We had never seen Shout Out Louds play before and felt super-cool knowing all of the new songs! The crowd loved every minute despite the oppressive heat and the band were a blast despite spending 5 hrs on the NYC runway trying to make it to the show!

A first for the ladies of this radio dept!
Tyler working hard @ KALX!
Benji showing off his fantastic restaurant!

Wednesday took us to Berkeley to visit our friends at KALX. Tyler, music director extraordinaire, showed us around the station and pointed out The Clientele & Spoon in heavy, mega, rotation! That’s just what we like to see! Then, we went visit former KALX md and current proprietor of Sea Salt Restaurant , Benji Lawless. We were treated like VIPs and ate more than was good for us!

The delicious lunch merely helped us stretch out in preparation for the giant Thai feast we shared with the Shout Out Louds! They are great people, and I hope you are all preparing yourselves to rock out this fall!
Live 105 Arcade Fire desktop in the control room!

Thursday, we ventured to Live 105 & KFOG to say hello. We grabbed another amazing feast at Nihon and caught the plane back for a disco nap prior to standing in line for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! Whew.

Thanks to Jen & Kate, Aaron Axelsen, Kelly Ransford, Kim Chun, KALX crew, Jim Spizirri & the # 71 bus for making our trip such a fun & successful one! We hope to have many more adventures to share soon!
