The Clean announces US tour dates with Times New Viking

The Clean will make a rare visit to the US for shows this summer with label mates Times New Viking!

David, Hamish & Robert will start their tour in Los Angeles and make a stop at the Chaos in Tejas festival before joining up with Times New Viking in Boston! Get your tickets now!

A guide to Merge happenings at Raleigh’s Hopscotch Festival

The 2nd annual Hopscotch Music Festival will take place September 8-10, 2011, in Raleigh, NC. Mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on these performances (updated with an appearance by Merge’s newest band, Hospitality!) :

Friday, Sep. 9, 3-5 pm: Stuart McLamb of The Love Language will participate in an artist-and-author discussion panel called “Simple Words: The Power of Narrative Songs” at the Raleigh City Museum. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday, Sep. 10, 11 am-5:30 pm: Hopscotch presents The Rosebuds & Friends, a block party outside the Lincoln Theatre. The seven-band lineup concludes with a performance by The Rosebuds at 4 pm. Food will be provided by Ashley Christensen and AC Restaurants, the proceeds from which will benefit the Frankie Lemmon Foundation.

And finally, SHOPscotch, a temporary pop-up store, will be open in Raleigh’s historic City Market every day during Hopscotch and on Sunday the 11th. This is the place to get Merge releases as well as records, t-shirts, and other merchandise from some of the festival’s participating bands. Business hours and more details can be found here.

Adam from Times New Viking talked with IFC’s Grayson Currin about their new album Dancer Equired and the video concept. Read the full interview here.

How does the video concept work with that song conceit?

It works good, because there are two characters in it. And in the song, Beth is singing, and I’m singing. I sing the boy character, and she sings the girl character. My lyrics and voice are the actual story, and then her lyrics are kind of what the girl is thinking. We knew we needed a video for that song, and we knew that, after our last video, we wanted to step it up even more and try to do the stop-motion idea. We tried to make a little French New Wave stop-motion. Breathless was kind of an inspiration for the video.

Times New Viking will begin their US tour on May 26 in Boston and will continue through July. Dancer Equired is available on CD, LP and digital download in the Merge store.

Merge Record Store Day releases now in the Merge store!

Record Store Day 2011 has come and gone and we have heard so many great reports of the support given to Independent record stores. We know you all love record stores as much as we do, and we hope you will celebrate “Record Store Day” more than once a year!

WILD FLAG‘s hotly anticipated “Future Crimes” b/w “Glass Tambourine” 7-inch is now available in the Merge digital store and from your favorite digital provider.
