Merge and eMusic

As of tomorrow, November 18, the Merge catalog will be removed from eMusic. We at Merge are longtime fans of eMusic; it has for years been one of the premiere places to discover new and independent music, and their editorial is among the best around.  We are truly grateful for their coverage, and have enjoyed working with them for many years. Unfortunately, eMusic's unilateral changes in an effort to bring on the major labels has created a situation where it would be harmful to the interests of Merge and our artists to continue our partnership at this time. We encourage those who regularly purchase Merge titles from eMusic to head to your local independent record store, the Merge Digital Store, or one of our other digital music partners.   More >

Superchunk's KEXP session archived!

Superchunk played a live set on KEXP while in Seattle for the Teenage Fanclub / Telekinesis mega-show at the Showbox on Thursday! Listen to the archive at North Carolina’s Superchunk was high on the list when it came to great indie-rock of the ‘90s (a time when that term actually made sense) and they haven’t lost a step with their 2010 LP of catchy, buzzing, riff-heavy pop “Majesty Shredding.” They play tracks from the new record and some classic singles live at KEXP.   More >

Franklin Bruno of The Extra Lens when he's not being an Extra Lens

We asked one half of The Extra Lens - Franklin Bruno -  for an update on what was happening with him other than their upcoming Merge debut Undercard, and he was happy to oblige! So, here is "what one of the Extra Lens does when he's not being an Extra Lens:" My main band, the Human Hearts, has a 7" ("Art Books") out soon, and a track on an upcoming benefit compilation for City Harvest.  Both are on Fayettenam Records, which released my compilation of 4-track/Shrimper-era solo recordings last year, and just put out Peter Hughes's "Fangio" albums.
