Los Angeles' Vertical Scratchers have unveiled a sinister new music video for "Way Out" from their debut Daughter of Everything. The new project from John Schmersal (ex-Brainiac/Enon, live Caribou, and Crooks on Tape) and Christian Beaulieu (ex-Triclops!/Anywhere) also announced their first European tour, which begins April 17th in Torino, Italy.
Director Danny Perez on the video:
"Inspired by Tom Rubnitz and the mania of children's-show programming, I wanted to use John's elastic performance in a psychedelic location. Using the colors and geometry of the set, the video is cut rapidly to the fast-paced song to create a dizzying and optical experience."
John Schmersal adds, "Danny is probably the only person I know who could make being confined in a straitjacket for several hours a liberating experience."
Vertical Scratchers are hopping in the van and coming to a town near you next month! They will release Daughter of Everything, their debut album, on February 25. Pre-order the album now on CD or LP in the Merge store to receive a free signed poster.
Listen to Daughter of Everything in full and see the beautiful artwork now at Pitchfork Advance.

Merge is happy to announce the signing of Vertical Scratchers! The band was formed in a van in Los Angeles by John Schmersal, whom you may know from seeing Caribou live, his current band Crooks on Tape, and/or his former bands Enon and Brainiac, and Christian Beaulieu, the former leader of Triclops! and a current member of Peace Creep and Anywhere. Christian is “beyond stoked” to release a record on the same label that put out Verbena’s Souls for Sale album, and he’s also excited to be labelmates with fellow San Franciscan Mikal Cronin.More >
