Merge Records Store

What is the Merge Records Store?

The Merge Records Store allows you to preview, purchase, and download our artists' music. Additionally, through our Merge Records Store mail order, you can purchase physical items such as CDs, LPs, and general merchandise.

Previewing

Do I need to create an account?

You do not need an account to browse the store, preview the music, or to purchase mail order items.

How do I preview music?

From each album's detail page, click 'preview this release' located below the album's cover image or click 'play' next to each track. A pop-up player will launch and play a 30 second sample of each track on the album, or the selected individual track.

Why can't I hear music using the preview function?

You need the Flash Player browser plug-in, available from http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer.

Should installing the Flash Player browser plug-in not correct the problem, email digitalsupport@mergerecords.com with the browser and operating system you are using, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Purchasing

How do I make a mail order purchase?
If you are only purchasing physical mail-order items, CDs, LPs, or general merchandise, you do not need to log in or create an account.

How do I purchase and download digital music files?

First register and create an account. Once registered, you can add entire albums or individual tracks to your cart, which can then be purchased via credit card.

Upon payment, your cart contents can be downloaded with the easy, one-step Merge Downloader, or one track at a time from within your browser.

How do I pay for tracks, albums and other merchandise?
Currently, the Merge Records Store only accepts Visa and MasterCard credit cards.

Is it safe to purchase music using my credit card ?
We use industry standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to insure safe transactions.

Why is there a transaction fee?
We apply a one-time $0.25 fee to each transaction, regardless of the number of tracks or albums you purchase. This fee covers the credit card processing fees, and enables us to keep our track prices low.

Downloading

How do I download music from the Merge Records store?
Tracks can be downloaded individually or with the Merge Downloader software.

Do I need the Merge Downloader software to download music?

The Merge Downloader is not necessary to download music from the Merge Records Store. The software simply streamlines the download of multiple tracks, albums, and compilations into a single step.

If you would like to use your browser instead of the Merge Downloader to download your purchased music, select ‘Download with my Browser’ on the “Transaction Complete’ page. You will be directed to your “Download Purchase History’ and will see a log of current and past purchased tracks. From this page, you can select which track from your log of purchases you would like your browser to download.

Where do I get the Merge Downloader software?

When you register for an account at Merge Records, you can opt to ‘Download using Download Manager’ and install the Merge Downloader software. If you are already registered, you can access this option through your account profile.

While the Download Manager option is checked, the software application will handle downloads. To deactivate the Downloader, simply uncheck the downloader option.

Can my computer run the Merge Downloader software?
MAC requires OSX version 10.3 or above. WINDOWS requires XP or Vista.

How do I know the Merge Downloader is working?
After you have made a purchase, you will be given the option to download using the Merge Downloader or your browser. Select the Merge Downloader option. If you have installed the software, it will launch and downloading will begin. If your browser prompts you to ‘open’ or ‘save’, select ‘open’ to continue launching the software.

What if I have problems with my download?

If anything goes wrong during your download, reattempt the download by logging into your account and navigating to your ‘Download Purchase History.’ From this page, you will see a log of what you have purchased and can download again.

If you are still having problems downloading, contact digitalsupport@mergerecords.com. Include your invoice number, your browser and operating system, and a description of your problem in the email. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

How do I import my music to iTunes?
The Merge Downloader has a built-in function that automatically imports downloaded tracks into iTunes. Tracks downloaded via a browser must be manually added to the iTunes library.

What do I get when I download a Merge MP3 track or album?
Merge offers the highest quality MP3s possible. They are encoded without DRM using the LAME version 3.97 encoder at non-variable rate of 320 kbps. At this quality level, the sound is essentially indistinguishable from a CD.

What other track download options does Merge offer?
We also offer FLAC digital music files. FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an uncompressed audio format. As such, FLAC files provide a perfect digital copy of a given piece of music. *Note, FLAC files do not work in iTunes.

How Can I tell the difference between an MP3 and a FLAC file?

MP3s eliminate audio data in order to reduce file size. FLAC files are by definition 'lossless' and are a perfect digital copy of the original source material. Because of this, a FLAC audio file is much larger in size than an MP3 file.

While FLAC audio is ideal if you listen to your music on a higher-end home stereo, or enjoy close-listening on headphones, it does not have as widespread playback support as the MP3 format.

"Includes Download Coupon". What does that mean?

With many of our vinyl releases we include a coupon with a unique code which will allow you to download a high quality MP3 version of the album you've purchased.
